As a professional writer myself, I understand the unique needs of people who need copy modification services. I strive to help my clients complete their project without breaking the bank. For this reason I keep my rates economical, beginning at the low end of industry standard. Light proofreading starts at just $18 per hour (about 1.5¢ per word), and copy editing services start at $40 per hour (about 3.2¢ per word).
Due to the nature of editing services, it is impossible to provide a flat rate based on word count alone. But, in general, for an average copy edit job you can expect a return of about five pages (250 words each) per hour. (Bear in mind that manuscripts with many problems can slow a copy editor down to a page an hour.) Light proofreading can move along as quickly as eight pages (2,000 words) an hour.
